Amitabh Bachchan is an inspiration to many actors who want to make it big in the film industry. Sometimes, people compare two stars and not everyone is okay with it. One such star who was not compared but accused of copying the megastar was Mukesh Khanna. The actor who has become a core memory of every 90s kid as Shaktimaan was compared with Big B, which irked him. In an interview, Khanna has talked about the same.
In an interview with Bollywood Thikana, Mukesh Khanna recalled people saying that he’s copying Amitabh Bachchan. The actor revealed that the ‘copycat’ tag was given to him from his debut film Roohi, which was released in 1981 and the same happened during his movies Dard-e-Dil and Captain Barry. Mukesh stated how Mithun Chakraborty was once called ‘Gareebon Ka Amitabh Bachchan’. While he doesn’t know how Mithun reacted to it. But if it had happened to Mukesh, he would have told people to’shut up’.
“They would say, ‘You look like Amit ji; you copy him.’ A string of my films flopped, which is why people said that. Here, only success speaks the loudest. When Mahabharat happened, no one gave me a label of Amitabh Bachchan, which happened a lot during my film career,” revealed the Shaktimaan actor. In the same interview, the Mahabharat star revealed that even media wrote articles saying his career dipped due to similarities with the Deewar star. The actor stated that even Big B thought he would copy him.
When asked if Amitabh Bachchan indeed say that he copied him, Mukesh Khanna narrated a story stating, “He did say that, but will I be a flop because of that? Amit ji kaun hai jo mere career ko rok sakte hai? (Amit ji can’t stop my career).” Further in this entertainment news, Mukesh Khanna revealed how a friend once saw a movie featuring Big B at a drive-in theatre. An ad featuring the Shaktimaan star was played during the show and the friend said, “Saala copy karta hai.” Khanna said that years later, some YouTuber used the quote for their content and wrote how Amit J’s one line destroyed Mukesh’s career.
