Good morning, and welcome to our live blog.

Making headlines today – aside from the wild weather currently whipping across the state – there are claims from two major WA conservation groups which cast doubt on the level of consultation in a review which could shape the state’s environmental laws.

Premier Roger Cook ordered former WA Environmental Protection Authority chair Paul Vogel and co-author, planning expert David McFerran, to conduct the review in October last year.

Cook unveiled the review’s 39 recommendations in December – which the conservation movement panned as “pro-industry” – but has since refused to make the report public despite concerns around consultation.

Now, questions have been raised over whether any conservation groups were consulted as part of the critical review.

And how about a home renovation that saves you money? That’s the dream, right?

Well, with another sizzling summer fast approaching, a new report has identified the ways West Australians could apply clever renovations to save money on power bills, while doing the government a solid by reducing peak demand and the need for expensive network upgrades.

Climate-ready upgrades to low-performing detached houses could dramatically reduce peak energy demand, particularly in WA, which had cooler and longer winters.

Meanwhile, a Perth school principal says WA should restrict phones and social media in the classroom.
