From Kris Aquino to Imee Marcos.

Daniel Magtira, who has been declared a nuisance candidate before, stated his desire to marry the president’s sister, Sen. Imee Marcos, as he filed for a Certificate of Candidacy (COC) for senator.

The 63-year-old Tondo resident on Tuesday, October 1, formalized his intention to run as an independent lawmaker at the Manila Hotel’s Tent City as the country officially kicks off its election season for the 2025 midterm polls.

Magtira said he wants to marry Marcos, adding that showbiz personality Kris Aquino is “always not around.”

“Nasa ano ata eh, nasa ibang planeta, eh. ‘Di ko alam kung saang planeta siya, eh. Kaya pakakasalan ko na lang si Imee Marcos,” the perennial electoral aspirant said.

In 2018, Magtira filed COC for senator and claimed he was Kris’ “husband.”

He also said he was “in love” with the “Queen of All Media.”

Magtira likewise made similar claims in 2015, when he also filed a COC as an aspiring senator. At that time, he hoped Kris would feature him on her morning show “Kris TV.”

Kris laid low from showbiz after 2018, when she first started to be diagnosed with several autoimmune diseases.

She went to the United States in 2022 to seek treatment for her conditions which were not available in the Philippines.

The former actress has been diagnosed with at least six autoimmune diseases as of September.

She returned to the country last month.

Meanwhile, Magtira in his most recent COC filing dedicated a song to Imee, serenading people at the venue,

He said that one of his campaign promises is to sign a recording contract.

Magtira has been declared a nuisance candidate by the Commission on Elections before.

A nuisance candidate, according to the Omnibus Election Code, is someone who has filed “to put the election process in mockery or disrepute or to cause confusion among the voters by the similarity of the names of the registered candidates.”

They will also be declared as such if there are “other circumstances or acts which clearly demonstrate that the candidate has no bona fide intention to run for the office for which the certificate of candidacy has been filed and thus prevent a faithful determination of the true will of the electorate.”

Magtira said he will seek to appeal his senatorial bid through the Integrated Bar of the Philippines if he gets disqualified anew.

The aspirant promises to fight corruption and push for higher wages.

The COC filing has traditionally served as the country’s ceremonial opening of the election season, with political aspirants formally declaring their bid to run for public office.

On the national level, 12 seats are available in the Senate, 254 seats for House of Representative members, and 64 seats for party-list representatives.

The 2025 midterm elections will take place on May 12.
