On Monday (September 30), the 62-year-old returned to the small screen for the first time since he stepped back from This Morning in May 2023.
The dad-of-two left the programme after he admitted to hiding an “unwise but not illegal” affair with a younger ITV colleague from bosses, vowing never to work in television again.
But the broadcaster appeared to have a change of heart this summer when he agreed to take part in Channel 5’s new show Cast Away.
The three-part series began at the start of the week and followed him as he spent 10 days stranded on a Madagascan island. During the show, the star reflected on how his life has changed over the past 12 months.
Following the backlash, PR guru Rochelle White told us: “I feel that this is a sign that viewers are not interested in seeing him back on screen.
“Although he said this would be his last time on TV, I think that if an opportunity presented itself where he could do either another show or a sit-down interview that would let him talk about the previous year, he would do it.”
But the expert warned that it would be no mean feat to change the public’s view of Phillip following the scandal.
She explained: “There will be a lot of trial and error to see if they can get his career back on track which could happen over the next 12 months.
“They [his PR team] will have to look at ways to tell his story and build a narrative to change the public’s perspective and perception of him surrounding what happened. It could be a PR nightmare for him and his team.”
Fans will have to stay tuned to see if the presenter will be able to bounce back from his This Morning scandal.
