“I chose to stand alone.”

Senator Imee Marcos had this to say after her inclusion in the administration’s senatorial slate for the 2025 elections.

The presidential sister shared this during the 35th death anniversary of the late president Ferdinand Marcos Sr.

A few days prior, President Marcos announced the 12 senatorial candidates under the “Alyansa para sa Bagong Pilipinas” banner during the political alliance’s convention last Thursday, Sept. 26, in Pasay City.

All were present during the announcement, except for Imee.

“I offer my heartfelt gratitude to President Bongbong, who, despite the anger and extreme cruelty of some, came to my defense and included me in the alliance,” she said in a statement.

“Many thanks also to NP and to all my allies who continue to support me, may your trust remain with me,” she added.

In marking the 35th year since her father passed away, Imee said that his teachings remain alive in her heart.

“As his eldest, I choose to stand free and firm, like him; in believing that there should be no allegiance but to the Filipino people,” she said.

She stated that while it is never easy to stand alone, in campaigns and in politics, it is the legacy that her father left her–the legacy of “Apo Lakay” whom the people remember today.

“I chose to stand alone so that my ading will no longer be put in a difficult position, and my true friends won’t have to hesitate,” she said.

‘Ading’ means younger sibling–a reference to the President.

“I choose to remain free and loyal—not to any group, but to every Filipino,” she added.

“I hope for your continued understanding and love,” she added.
