The new JR Matsuyama Station building in the city of Matsuyama, Ehime Prefecture, opened on September 29. It was the first major renovation in 71 years. The station, which was on the ground, is now elevated. An area called Dandan-dori, lined with souvenir shops and restaurants, was created under the elevated tracks. The area was crowded with many visitors from the first day. It is expected that people will gather around the station and make it livelier.
Note: The kanji characters for jo in chijo and shita in kokashita were respectively pictograms indicating “above” and “below.”
