Taiwan’s Pai Yu-po returns against Japan’s Akane Yamaguchi during their women’s singles match at the China Open in Changzhou yesterday. Yamaguchi won 21-16, 21-6 to eliminate Pai in the first round. Taiwan’s Tai Tzu-ying also exited, beaten 21-14, 7-21, 21-19 by Julie Jakobsen of Denmark. Chiu Pin-chian was the only Taiwanese to advance in the women’s singles, winning 21-15, 21-19 against Aakarshi Kashyap of India. In the women’s doubles, two Taiwanese pairs beat their Indian opponents. Hsieh Pei-shan and Hung En-tzu downed Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand 16-21, 21-15, 21-17, while Teng Chun-hsun and Yang Chu-yun eliminated Rutaparna Panda and Swetaparna Panda 21-11, 16-21, 21-11. In the men’s singles, Chou Tien-chen beat China’s Li Shifeng 21-17, 21-18 and in the men’s doubles, Lee Fang-chih and Lee Fang-jen defeated Sabar Gutama and Moh Reza Pahlevi Isfahanu of Indonesia 21-16, 21-16.
