Dismissed Mayor Alice L. Guo of Bamban, Tarlac has returned to the Philippines early morning on Friday, Sept. 6, the Bureau of Immigration (BI) said.
Guo will be facing criminal charges filed against her like human trafficking, money laundering, and tax evasion.
She arrived in Manila at around 1:30 a.m. onboard a special flight with three crew members and eight passengers including Local Government Secretary Benhur Abalos Jr. and Philipine National Police (PNP) Chief Gen. Rommel Marbil.
“Upon her arrival, the Bureau of Immigration (BI) immediately executed the mission order against Guo. According to Immigration Commissioner Norman Tansingco, she faces charges of undesirability and misrepresentation under Philippine immigration laws,” the BI said.
It said that Guo was arrested by Indonesian police at an apartment in Tangerang City in Banten province.
“The return of Alice Guo is a significant achievement for the Philippine justice system and highlights the effective collaboration between international counterparts and law enforcement agencies,” Tansingco said.
“This operation demonstrates our unwavering commitment to ensuring that justice prevails, no matter the boundaries,” he said.
He also said the BI will continue “to collaborate closely with the Department of Justice to ensure that cases like these are handled efficiently and swiftly.”
The BI said that after learning of Guo’s presence in Indonesia, “Philippine immigration officials worked closely with Indonesian immigration and police to execute a manhunt that led to her swift arrest and deportation.”
“Guo remains under legal custody of the BI, while physical custody shall remain with the PNP,” it added.
Guo, who is being linked to the criminal activities of some Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGOs), managed to slip out of the Philippines despite an arrest order of the Senate and the issuance of an Immigration Lookout Bulletin Order (ILBO).
